Job Description

The Justice and Reconciliation Project (JRP), a non-profit organization that works with war-affected communities in northern Uganda, seeks a Gender Justice Intern to assist the Gender Justice department in their activities this year.

S/he will report directly to the Gender Justice Team Leader and support the department's documentation and advocacy strategies. Responsibilities include:

  • Writing and editing reports, briefs, statements, poems and memory books;
  • Supporting the Gender Justice team in community engagement activities;
  • Developing creative advocacy strategies, such as dramas and songs;
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of any JRP events;
  • Attending local events and reporting on outcomes;
  • Undertaking any other activities as assigned by the Team Leader.

Qualifications
Requirements: An ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to write formally and creatively and be familiar with the ongoing gender justice and transitional justice debates in Uganda. S/he should have demonstrated experience working in a conflict/post-conflict setting; working with women; ability to produce results on a deadline with minimal supervision; and experience engaging grassroots communities in advocacy campaigns.

This is an unpaid position and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week for at least 4 months. This position is also subject to JRP's International Intern Contribution Scheme (see   for more details). Qualified candidates should have a strong background in writing and editing, including formal and creative writing, and be proficient in English.
